Haydock Racing

Situated within 127 acres of parkland, Haydock Park is a racecourse which enjoys a wonderful scenic locale. A lush rural setting is not unusual for a British racecourse of course but in the case of Haydock, located in Merseyside and equidistant from the cities of Liverpool and Manchester, the setting makes Haydock racing all the more appealing for race fans. The biggest draw at Haydock however is the racing itself and as a premier venue for both flat and National hunt fixtures, keen racegoers can enjoy the best all year round horseracing in the North West.

Haydock Racing, inside rail Another plus for the location of Haydock is the convenience for the nation’s main transport routes. Close to the M6 Motorway Junction Twenty-three which connects with the A580 main Liverpool to Manchester road, the course is perfectly placed for local and wider travellers. Buses also carry passengers direct to the course from both Wigan and Warrington Bank train stations.

No less than 32 racedays are held at Haydock Park, offering plenty of opportunities for keen and casual racegoers to experience the best of Haydock racing, and whether attending a National Hunt or flat race fixture a great day out with all hospitality is assured. Enjoy the thrill and spectacle of the races from a choice of vantage points, accompanied by a wide variety of refreshment and dining options.

The course at Haydock incorporates a large oval track, 1 mile and 5 furlongs in circumference and with a 5 furlong run-in. It is a fast track on which big gallopers do well, even in the hunt races where they must negotiate tough and large drop jumps. The final test before the run in is an open ditch and water jump before what is often a thrilling finish. On soft going stamina is essential and Haydock racing offers a preliminary test for Aintree and the Cheltenham Gold Cup.

The Red Square Vodka Gold Cup is the National Hunt highlight of Haydock racing, staged in February each year, and is representative of the three mile chases for which Haydock is so popular. Sprints are the main attraction of the flat season and the Group 1 Stanleybet Sprint Cup is the highlight, representing one of the five sprint races held in England and France to determine the Champion Sprinter of Europe.

There are a series of different enclosures for racegoers to choose from at Haydock and all offer a unique environment to suit particular tastes and budget.

Top of the range sophistication and style reflecting the age old grandeur of horseracing is offered by the Premier Enclosure, and next is the County Stand, which offers a less formal but no less appealing option.
Haydock Racing, winner

For all the fun and festivities associated with a rip-roaring raceday there is the Tattersalls Enclosure and for families looking to mix some racing excitement with family centred activities and amenities the Newton Stand is the ideal choice.

The Centenary Stand houses the Premier Suite within the top floor, giving unparalleled panoramic views of all the racing action and especially over the winning post which is adjacent to the enclosure. Just 450 badges are available for the Premier suite and so advanced booking is essential. Badge holders can enjoy the finest dining available on the course within Harry’s Bistro Restaurant and there are similarly impressive bar options and a range of betting facilities.

These include the signature restaurant within the enclosure, Colours, and the stylish Champagne Conservatory and Seafood Bar. Further drinks opportunities are available within Chasers Bar and the Whittle and Horseshoe Suites.

Tattersalls Enclosure offers the largest section to accommodate racegoers. Raised areas allow for good views of all the Haydock racing action and the atmosphere within Tattersalls makes for a memorable social experience. The ticket option of choice for most visitors to Haydock, Tattersalls Enclosure contains a number of drinks and food outlets and epitomises what horseracing is about to many racegoers.

Tote facilities are also available within Tattersalls and punters can place their best with the on-course bookmakers in the traditional fashion. Badge holders for the Premier, County and Tattersalls enclosures can also access the Winners Enclosure and Parade Ring.

A visit to Haydock Park represents an ideal activity for a family day out. The Newton Enclosure provides the best environment for families and provides a children’s play area and on Saturday fixtures a bouncy castle too. There is a viewing area to catch all the raceday action and a bar and cafeteria. Dine within the cafeteria or bring a picnic. Only soft drinks in plastic containers are permitted. An excellent family day out on a budget is further made possible with free admission for children under 16 and ample free parking on-site.

Tickets for Haydock start from just £8 per person for the Newton Enclosure during the January to March midweek fixtures. Entry to Tattersalls starts from £15, to the County Enclosure, £23 and £34 to access the Premier Suite. Group discounts are available when booked in advance. A whole range of raceday and dining packages are available and start from £75 per person. Choose a table within the course restaurants or a private box for parties of up to 20 or select one of the superb suites which can accommodate up to 400 guests in comfort and style.
